LASIK is a procedure that permanently change the shape of the cornea(the clear covering of the front of the eye), using an Excimer Laser.

LASIK is a quick & often painless procedure.

LASIK combine the accuracy of the Excimer Laser with the healing benefits of the surgical procedure called Lamellar Keratoplast, performed since 1949.

After the eye has been completely numbed using anaesthetic eye drops, an eyelid holder is placed between the lids to prevent blinking. Next, an instrument called a Microkeratome makes a flap on the cornea.

During this process you may feel a little pressure, but no serious discomfort. You will be asked to look directly at a target light while the laser reshapes the cornea. The cornea is made flatter to treat short-sightedness, steeper to treat long-sightedness & more spherical to treat astigmatism. The protective flap is then folded back in place where it bonds without the need for stitches.

Because LASIK is performed under a protective layer of tissue, the healing is very gradual & gentle.

There is a little risk of corneal haze, very little to no postoperative discomfort & a short interval of post-operative medication.

Vision returns fairly rapidly, often within a day or so, though it may take a few months to stabilize.

LASIK can treat a large range of refractive errors if the cornea is of a sufficient thickness. The creation of a corneal flap does however carry some very small, potential surgical risk.

How does it works ?

LASIK involves cutting & lifting a very thin layer of skin on the corneal surface, lasering the exposed tissue & then replacing the layer without stitches.

Step 1 : A thin flap is created using a device called a " Mickrokeratome " & flap is lifted.

Step 2 : A cool beam laser is applied to the cornea to reshape the cornea curvature.

Step 3 : The corneal flap is repositioned over the treated area & stays in place without stitches.
