Stylish ? heheh, this is actually scalp bandage for head injuries casualty
CPR & First Aid course conducted by St.John Ambulance Malaysia
18 and 19 December 2008
The principle of first aid :
* to save life
* prevent deterioration in casualty's injury
* to promote recovery
* to protect the unconcious
Objective of cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) :
* descride the importance of oxygen to body
* describe the steps for resuscitation of respiration & circulation in adults, child & infant
* describe the steps for managing a choking adults, child & infant
The D.R.A.B.C. action plan :
* Danger - Clear the danger of the casualty, surrounding & myself
* Response - Yes, check the casualty pulse & breathing . If okay then place in recovery position
- No, checking for breathing, pulse & bleeding.
Secondary survey from head to toe exam.
* Airway - Open airway of casulaty
- Determine breathless of casulaty by look, feel & listen
* Breath - If no breath, perform 2 rescue breathing (mouth to mouth)
- determine pulse or signs of life
*Compression - If no pulse & sign of life, perform chest compression 30 times in
1 minute & 2 rescue breathing over 5 times.
- If sign of life returns , place the casualty in recovery position.
D.R.A.B.C. plan is very important & it may save a life or prevent the casualty's life to be worst.
Clinical death - 0 to 2 minutes cessation of breathing and circulation,
lethal brain damage begins in 4 to 6 minutes,
biological death - 10 minutes brain cells begin to die.
Dressings & Bandages:
Dressings used to : control bleeding & cover a wound to prevent infection
Bandages used to : control bleeding, hold dressings, splints, and compresses in place, limit swelling, provide support to an injured limb or joint and restrict movement.
Types of dressing : extra-large dressing & eye pad
Types of bandages : triangular bandage, reef knots,untying reef knots, arm sling, elevation sling, scalp bandage.
These are some basic things that we done in CPR & first aid course during this two days, thanks to Mr Maniam & Ms Grace experience & all useful information. I really learn a lot & all my collegues find it interesting & challenging as we need to exam. Practical exam for CPR & paper examination which we learnt on these two days. Although Mr Maniam & Ms Grace are very strict but hilarious, we never feel bored during the training.
